Eau de Parfum vs Extrait de Parfum: What’s the Difference?
Concentrations explained — and why they’re the single biggest factor in how long your perfume lasts.
Ever wondered why one perfume vanishes by lunchtime while another lasts two days? The answer is usually concentration — the percentage of fragrance oil in the bottle.
The concentration ladder
- Eau de Cologne (EDC): ~2–5% oil — light, fades in 1–2 hours.
- Eau de Toilette (EDT): ~5–15% oil — fresh, lasts 2–4 hours.
- Eau de Parfum (EDP): ~15–20% oil — rich, lasts 5–8+ hours.
- Extrait de Parfum: ~20–30% oil — the most intense and longest-lasting.
Why it matters
Higher concentration means richer scent, stronger projection and dramatically better longevity. It also means you need fewer sprays, so a bottle lasts longer too.
Where ZamZam sits
Every ZamZam fragrance is blended at extrait/EDP strength — that’s how we achieve genuine 36–48 hour longevity. Want to make it last even longer? Read our guide to making perfume last.
